About
Step aboard for one of the Broads' most unique heritage experiences – an unforgettable journey to the only monastery in England never officially closed by King Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Your special Saturday adventure begins at Fairhaven Staithe, where you'll enjoy a peaceful boat cruise through the tranquil Norfolk Broads to the Bishop's Mooring. Arriving by water is the traditional way to approach St Benet's Abbey, just as pilgrims, monks and medieval visitors did for centuries.
On arrival, you'll be welcomed for a fascinating one-hour guided walking tour, delivered in partnership with the Norfolk Archaeological Trust. Discover the extraordinary history of St Benet's Abbey, hear stories of Viking raids, medieval monks and powerful abbots, and marvel at the iconic windmill built into the medieval gatehouse.
Why not make a full day of your visit? Arrive early to explore Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden, enjoy our on-site café serving light lunches and homemade cakes, and it is free on-site parking.
