With more visitors discovering north Norfolk, it is a priority to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the glorious county in a safe and responsible way; looking after ourselves, one another, and the landscape around us. There are 45 miles of beautiful coastline, as well as the Deep History Coast, and expanses of countryside so there is plenty of space in north Norfolk to go around. So, to help keep visitors and residents safe, please follow the simple guidelines below.
Respect the landscape, nature and wildlife. Please tread carefully and look out for wildlife that has moved into places, not usually inhabited. At breeding times, animals, birds and their young are particularly vulnerable. Bird breeding season is the beginning of March to the end of August. Bird wintering season is the beginning of November to the end of March. Common seal breeding season is the beginning of June to the end of August and Grey seal breeding season is the beginning of November to the end of January. Please keep dogs on leads and stay on footpaths.
Respect local communities in north Norfolk by adhering to the Public Right of Way (footpaths and bridleways), keeping dogs under control on leads, please do not use private land for recreational activity such as picnics and do not park outside people’s houses. Also please take any litter home and only light fires and BBQs in designated places. Respect any specific guidelines that have been put in place by our partners, plan ahead before travelling, avoid peak times and check what facilities are open or need to be pre-booked. Protect the landscape by ensuring you are following the Countryside Code, which sets out how visitors to rural areas can behave safely and responsibly. Protect the environment by travelling sustainably and staying local. If you can, try to journey by foot or bike, then you can experience the wonderful county as you travel, and won't have to worry about finding a car parking space.
Enjoy the space. We know everyone has their favourite spots in north Norfolk but if large numbers of people head to the same place, it will negatively impact your experience and the area. Instead, seek out some new favourites away from the crowds. See our recommendations for beaches off the beaten track. Enjoy our beautiful beaches safely, by following the important advice issued by the RNLI. It is always advisable to swim at beaches that are lifeguard patrolled. Enjoy supporting local businesses. Businesses appreciate the custom visitors bring to the area.
