For history lovers, an itinerary can soon be filled with visits to the many stately homes. The National Trust looks after Blickling Hall & Felbrigg Hall and their impressive gardens, cafes and shops. Holkham Hall is the jewel in Norfolk’s crown and one of England's most notable rural estates. Further west is Houghton Hall, home to Great Britain‘s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole. And, there’s Sandringham - the much-loved country retreat of the Royal family, and where you’ll find Amner Hall. North Norfolk also boasts some of the most impressive and beautiful churches in England, with many linked by beautiful circular walks.

Beautiful gardens can be found in many of the stately homes, a highlight being Houghton Hall’s award-winning 5-acre walled garden designed by Julian and Isabel Bannerman. Gooderstone Water Gardens near King’s Lynn, which was created by one man, has become a destination for photographers and garden lovers. The stunning gardens at the East Ruston Old Vicarage are also a favourite, segregated by impressively statuesque beech hedging, there’s everything from rose and Dutch gardens to exotic and tree fern gardens. A trip any time of the year to the National Trust's Sherinham Park is a delight. There’s always something to admire whatever the season.

Impressive entertainment can be found at Thursford’s Summer & Christmas Extravaganzas and Cromer Pier’s End of the Pier Show (the last surviving show of its kind in Europe) – both warmly welcome groups. There’s plenty of small independent theatres along the coast, including the Sheringham Little Theatre.
North Norfolk also has a variety of galleries in its many market and coastal towns, as well as world-renowned art collections – two of the best housed at Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall. There’s a wealth of artistic talent to be discovered – make sure Dalegate Market, Langham Glass, Alby Crafts & Gardens, Wroxham Barns and Creake Abbey Studios are on the agenda.

Our festivals also span the year and are a great reason to visit on their own. There are the Norfolk & Norwich Festival performances in May and summer outdoor theatre at Holkham Hall, The Crab and Lobster Festival in Cromer and Sheringham and all the summer carnivals as well as the North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival in September - there’s so much to experience.

North Norfolk is ideal for unique and eclectic shopping, with most shopping haunts able to cater for coach parking. Dotted with quaint and historic market towns and villages, north Norfolk boasts many boutiques, galleries, artisan delis and farm shops for days of retail therapy. There are plenty of farmers' markets, seasonal shopping events, and festivals are popular and give visitors the chance to stock-up on local delicacies and one-off crafts available nowhere else. Check out Dalegate Market, the Georgian town of Holt, Burnham Market, Staithe Street in Wells-next-the-Sea and Aylsham for highlights.
North Norfolk is rich in small producers making outstanding and award-winning food and drink throughout the year. With the most micro-breweries than anywhere else in England, local cheesemakers, cider makers, chocolatiers, family butchers, saffron growers, oyster catchers, mussel farmers and more, foodies are spoilt for choice no matter what time of year they come. A week’s tour can soon be filled visiting these small producers on-site, mixed with tasting some of their exquisite foods in the many gastro pubs and restaurants lining the coast and set inland in picturesque countryside. The North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival is a fantastic time to visit and taste everything in one day within the beautiful grounds of Holkham Hall. Creake Abbey Farmers Market is on the first Saturday of each month, with plenty of stalls.

North Norfolk has long been a haunt of the keen birdwatcher and wildlife enthusiast. The coastal path and nature reserves are ideal places to spot rare species and the spectacular autumn and spring migrations. Holkham, RSPB Titchwell and Pensthorpe Natural Park, RSPB Snettisham, as well as the area’s many ancient woodlands, are favourites. A boat trip, or walk when the tide is out, to see the seals at Blakeney Point is something not to miss.
