There’s plenty going on this Easter in north Norfolk; enjoy train rides, egg hunts, watching lambing live, dinosaur adventures, nature trails, a viking festival and much more! Here's a round up of what's on during the school holidays. For more events and ideas, see the what's on pages.
Lambing Events
Wroxham Barns (1 to 16 April 2023). There is a fun filled Easter planned at Wroxham Barns with their Spring Fling. You may be lucky to see lambs being born as well as enjoy lots of other animal adventures on the Junior Farm. Tickets are £14.50 per person for anyone 2yrs and above and include unlimited rides and play at the fun park. Find out more and book.
Lambing at Felbrigg Hall Farm, Felbrigg, NR11 8PR. Over Easter the farm will be open to the public, so the whole family can enjoy watching the new born babies and their mums bonding. Open days are 7 to 10 April 2023 and 15 to 16 April 2023. Call 01263 837250 for more information.
Great Easter Days Out at Attractions
At BeWILDerwood (1 to 17 April 2023), join in with the The Pesky Bunnies Easter Eggs-pedition! There will be plenty of fun as you wind your way through the tunnels and tree houses and fly through the trees! Spend the day at this huge, award-winning forest of family fun and outdoor adventure with treehouses, wobbly wires, slippery slopes, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles. Take lazy boat rides across Scaaaary Lake, dress up and join in with the enchanting daily story telling; get befuddled in the marvelous Muddle Maze; snaking through the peaceful pathways and revealing treacherous trails - this is a world with more than a little sprinkling of fairy dust. Holkham Hall (7 to 17 April 2023). Head to Holkham for its Toys, Trails and Cotton Tails event taking place Sun, Mon and Thurs 11am - 4pm). There's crafts, trails and games to keep children entertained. In the Walled Garden, there will be performances of The Velveteen Rabbit (7 to 10 April only) and get ready for the Gnaw Chocolate Easter Hunt through the 6-acre Walled Garden. Pensthorpe Natural Park (5 to 7 April 2023). Make your own stunning mosaic egg sculpture from wooden tesserae, with GoGo Discover artist Rebecca Amphlett from Dandelion Mosaics. Rebecca, created Arcadia T.Rex, which was painstakingly decorated with 20,241 glass and ceramic pieces using 4.5l of glue – and raised a roarsome £10K local charity Break. Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure (1 to 17 April 2023). Join in with Dippy's Egg-cellent Easter at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure for a day of fun. There will be a basket full of egg-traordinary Easter fun with activities, trails and crafts. No matter the weather, there's plenty to do. Head to Dippy’s Splash Zone for watery fun and there's undercover adventures in Dinomite Indoor Play with three levels of fun including climbing nets, bridges and three massive slides. For high wire adventures, whizz over to Predator High Ropes and go on the world's first parallel sky rails, an exhilirating high ropes adventure. Find out more and book here.
National Trust Blickling Hall (1 to 17 April 2023). This spring, treat the whole family to a world of adventure at Blickling Estate on an Easter trail. The trail takes place between10am - 5pm, with last entry at 4.00pm, so come along and explore the beautiful garden at Blickling Estate. As the trail takes place in the garden, normal admission charges also apply, free entry to the garden for National Trust members. Find out more.
National Trust Felbrigg Hall Easter Adventure Trail (1 to 17 April 2023). The daffodils will be carpeting Felbrigg yellow this April and the lambs will be gambolling in the fields, which means a visit to Felbrigg this Easter will certainly put a spring in your step. This year the trail takes you on an adventure around the whole outside of the Hall through different gardens and habitats as you try your hand at seed planting, building giant bird nests, hunting for bugs and trying a human agility course. Standard parking charges apply plus £3 per trail (includes a chocolate egg). Make the most of your day and explore the elegant hall and see if you can spot the golden eggs in each room. National Trust Sheringham Park Easter Adventure Trail (1 - 17 April 2023). Wander through Sheringham Park and you'll discover why it became the personal favourite of its 19th century designer, Humphry Repton. The undulating Easter trail will take you into the wilder areas of Sheringham Park. Standard parking charges apply plus £3 per trail, includes a chocolate Easter egg. Find out more here.
Hop Aboard a Steam Train
Take a journey on a heritage steam train through the north Norfolk countryside. Wells & Walsingham Light Railway is the world's smallest public railways and enjoy The White Rabbit Easter Trail between Wells and Walsingham. From 1 - 17 April 2023, visitors can join Alice in Wonderland and hunt for clues down the line, and pop in to the Signal Box Cafe for an Easter treat (7 - 10 April).
At North Norfolk Railway, there is the North Norfolk Railway Easter Weekend (7-10 April 2023) where visitors can travel on three contrasting historic trains. Amongst the locomotives scheduled to be in action is 92203 "Black Prince" a mammoth 2-10-0 built by British Railways in 1959 and the Y14 No564 which is the railway`s oldest working steam engine. The railway will is also holding a Spring Steam Gala the 14 to 16 April 2023. The Gala makes a welcome return and is scheduled to feature some very special guest locomotives. The event will feature an intensive timetable of passenger trains, non-stop workings, selected double-heading and demonstration goods trains. Find out more and book tickets.
On Bure Valley Railway, take a ride on the Easter Eggspress (1 -16 April 2023) for an exciting day out for all the family. There is a free Easter egg for every child on completion of the Easter Trail. Stop off at the decorated shop and Whistlestop Café for the Easter themed event. Adult tickets £19 and children £10. Easter Events
Fakenham Racecourse Easter Race Meeting (10 April 2023). On Easter Monday, Fakenham Racecourse will be hosting its Aldiss Easter Monday Raceday. And as children aged 17 and under are admitted for free, it makes for a fun and affordable family day out.
Sheringham Viking Festival. One of the highlights of Easter will be the Sheringham Viking Festival on 1 April. The festival is a popular annual event celebrating all things Viking. From 10am to 4 pm Beeston common will be tranformed into a Viking village full of the sights and smells from the era as well as a variety of activities including battle re-enactments. From 7pm watch the Viking parade (begins at the top of the car park) head down to the sea front when the iconic boat burning ceremony takes place at 7.15pm. Find out more.
Markets and Fairs
The Norfolk Artisan Spring Fair, with over 100 local food, drink and craft stands, takes place at Fakenham Racecourse on 1 and 2 April 2023 between 9.30am to 4pm. Head to the beautiful setting of Creake Abbey in Fakenham and browse around the farmers' market on 1 April 2023 between 9.30am and 1pm and then the Spring Gift Fair on 8 April between 10am to 4pm where you can shop a range of locally made goods. Head over to Holkham for their Easter Market (on 8 and 9 April 2023 from 10am to 4pm) showcasing the very best produce, gifts and crafts from over 50 local artisan producers and outside, you can expect a tasty choice of local street food vendors.
More Amazing Attractions
There is a whole range of attractions in north Norfolk open over Easter for fantastic family days out. Visit Wroxham Miniature Worlds with model railways, a Lego city and interactive flight and train simulators and try your luck in the Old Penny Arcade. Immerse yourself at the largest privately owned military museum in the United Kingdom at the Muckleburgh Military Collection where you can see over 150 artillery pieces, tanks and other vehicles, most of which are in working order. Visitors can enjoy rides in a military vehicle or take a tank driving session in a FV432.
Learn some interesting facts about wildlife conservation and see the exotic creatures of Asia and South America at Amazona Zoo. Have an underwater adventure at Sealife Hunstanton. For a water adventure, head to the beautiful Norfolk Broads, Britain’s magical waterways by hiring a boat, canoe or SUP, or stroll through peaceful gardens like Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden and Gooderstone Water Garden. If art is your interest, watch expert local craftsmen revive traditional skills at Langham Glass and Alby Crafts and Gardens. At Langham Glass, you can experience a fascinating live glassmaking demonstration with informative commentary from the expert glassmaking team. You can also create your very own glass masterpiece ranging from tealights to glasses and vases. Visit art galleries and browse around independent shops where you can buy the works of local artisans such as Gallery Plus Shop, Bircham Gallery and Creake Abbey.
Marvellous Museums
North Norfolk has many museums and historical sites, open to visitors, illustrating the area's fascinating and unique history and heritage.
At RAF Air Defence Radar Museum Neatishead, explore the country's only original Cold War Operations Room, which formed a critical link in the RAF's Command and Control system in the years following WW2. At the free to enter RNLI Henry Blogg Musuem, relive the courageous history of life-saving at sea in Cromer or head to the Museum of the Broads where you can discover the stories of the Broads and take a boat trip.
