About
Each year, Horning Sailing Club hosts the nationally famous Three Rivers Race at the beginning of June and Horning Open Regatta at the beginning of August. It is Europe's toughest inland sailing race. The race course covers over 50 miles, starting and finishing at Horning Sailing Club and comprising three different rivers: the Bure, Ant and Thurne. During the race, competitors must navigate three bridges at Potter Heigham and Acle.
The lowering of masts is the ultimate test of skill and makes for fantastic viewing throughout the race. From their individual start, each competitor has up to 24 hours to complete the course meaning many sail through the night.
Boats start from 11am on the Saturday from Horning Sailing Club (please note the HSC car park is only for competitors and race officials on race weekend, there is limited parking for spectators around horning village). The best viewing places after that are Potter Heigham and Acle and near Ludham Bridge throughout the afternoon and evening.
