Kelling Heath Dark Sky Platform

About

Kelling Heath Holiday Park is hosting a magical family event beneath North Norfolk's enchanting skies this October, celebrating the official opening of its brand-new Dark Sky Viewing Platform. The weekend long 'Wild Sky' event will run from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October 2025, with the Platform officially opened by Norfolk-born celebrity astronomer Mark Thompson, best known for his appearances on BBC's Stargazing Live.

Kelling Heath Holiday Park is proudly accredited as a 2-Star Dark Sky Discovery Site, offering exceptional conditions for stargazing. Nestled within this designated area, is the purpose-built wooden Dark Sky Viewing Platform.

To mark the launch, the weekend will include a host of family-friendly free activities for Guests staying at the Holiday Park. Highlights include:
• Official opening of the Dark Sky Viewing Platform on Saturday 4th October, with special guest Mark Thompson, astronomer, author and broadcaster. Mark will also give a short, family-friendly talk, sharing his passion for astronomy and the wonders of the night sky.
• Stargazing with the North Norfolk Astronomical Society on the evening of Saturday 4th October, where members are on hand with telescopes and their expertise, offering guests the chance to peer deeper into the cosmos.
• New Dark Sky Activity Packs will be available to purchase, launched to encourage families to explore and learn about the stars at their own pace.
• Guided walks and talks throughout the weekend, as well as self-guided trails, celebrating nocturnal wildlife, astronomy and the natural beauty of Kelling Heath.
