About
The Mundesley Museum sits on “The Lees” overlooking the beach with spectacular views over the sea. The Museum is believed to be one of the smallest in England and is fully accredited by the Arts Council.
The museum sits on the ground floor of a coastguard lookout tower. The current structure was built in 1928, replacing an earlier building.
There are various displays featured at the museum and these change from year to year: past displays have featured the Mundesley Railway, the Mundesley Minefield, and locally found fossils (including a mammoth, elephant and hippopotamus!).
Displays also include lifeboat exploits, ship wrecks, fishing industry, maritime artefacts and locally discovered fossils. The former railway branch lines 1898-1964 are also depicted. The 1st floor has been reinstated as a coastguard lookout of the 1930/40 era containing tide clock, fog horn and powerful binoculars, also modern equipment (radar, VHF radio) as the NCI keeps a visual watch providing a service.
The museum is operated by volunteers and is open from April to August. Please check opening times ahead of your visit: 01263 7206036. There is no charge for visiting the museum, but the museum does accept donations.
