About

End the day immersed in the gentle beauty of the Wolterton Estate as evening light softens the landscape and the pace of the day begins to slow. This guided Sunset Walk offers a chance to experience the estate in a very different mood, as colours deepen, shadows lengthen and the gardens transition quietly into dusk.
Led by Alan Power, Head of Landscape and Gardens at Wolterton and Mannington Hall, The walk will explore how the estate has evolved over the centuries and observe how the estate changes through the evening hours. Alan will share insights into seasonal planting, long views and the rhythms of the landscape at day's end, highlighting details best appreciated in this calm, reflective light.
The walk will conclude with a relaxed glass of wine and a selection of cheeses, enjoyed together as dusk settles. A sociable and atmospheric way to connect with the estate, learn from an expert guide and linger a little longer outdoors.

Alan Power is Head of Landscape and Gardens at Wolterton and Mannington Hall, joining both estates at an exciting moment in their history. With over three decades of experience, Alan has led and shaped some of the UK and Ireland's most celebrated gardens, including Mount Stewart, Hidcote and Stourhead, where he was Head Gardener for 17 years.
Trained at Writtle University and in arboriculture, his career has spanned historic garden conservation, estate management and advisory roles with the National Trust across the South West. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to horticulture, Alan was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2016.
A familiar voice and face to many, Alan has presented for BBC television and radio, hosted National Trust podcasts and speaks widely at garden events in the UK and internationally. His walks are informative, relaxed and rich with insight, offering a rare chance to learn from one of the country's most respected garden professionals.
