Discover Cromer

Cromer is a traditional seaside resort and is famous for its pier, home to a lifeboat station and Pavilion Theatre, where the UK’s only remaining traditional end of the pier variety show takes place each Summer and Winter. The pier is an enduring example of Victorian architecture, having withstood many storms, tidal surges and even an attempt to blow it up by the Government in WW2 to prevent the pier being used as a landing strip for enemy invaders!
WATCH 'THE PERFORMER' FILMED AT THE PAVILION THEATRE
Close to the shore, and part of the Deep History Coast, you will find ‘Britain’s Great Barrier Reef’, the Cromer Shoal Chalk Bed, created in the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs roamed. It is the longest in the world at 20 miles long and you can see it by swimming out and snorkelling. Cromer is on the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail and has its own Discovery Point.
Unmissable on the Cromer skyline is the 160ft tower of 14th century church St Peter & Paul with vast stained glass windows commemorating Cromer's lifeboat crew, the most decorated in RNLI history. There's also a museum named after Henry Blogg, who served for 53 years on Cromer's lifeboats, who, with his crew, saved over 873 lives from the North Sea. You can discover more history at the Lifeboat Museum & Cromer Museum.
DISCOVER NORTH NORFOLK'S CHURCHES
Back in the 19th century, the town was developed into a seaside resort by the late Victorians. Today, the streets and alleys are bustling with shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy the famous Cromer crab!
In the summer, Cromer celebrates its maritime heritage with the famous Cromer Carnival and Crab & Lobster Festival. There are events throughout the year including the Cromer & Sheringham Art & Literary Festival and Folk on the Pier. Also during the summer months, a herd of Bagot goats arrive in Cromer to carry out an important habitat-management role on Cromer’s cliff. The Bagot goats graze on rough materials rather than grass, which helps keep plant growth across the area under control. A fantastic sight!
All year round, spending time on the beach at Cromer is a must. Have a go at crabbing, building sandcastles on the family friendly sands or try surfing and paddle boarding. The Norfolk coast path passes through the area offering fantastic scenic walks. With a great choice of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs, Cromer is ideal for a beachside holiday, all year round.
