What's on in north norfolk this October 2018 half term

October is a fantastic time of year to visit north Norfolk. The scenery is changing, the beaches are quieter and there’s lots of events to keep the family entertained during the school holidays. See our round up of what’s on this October 2018 half term.

THINGS TO DO IN AUTUMN

Wild Wednesdays at Brancaster Beach (Wed 24 Oct, 10:00 to 16:00).
Join the National Trust team for a day of fifty things themed family fun on Brancaster Beach. Fly kites, try stone skimming, track a wild animal, build an epic sandcastle, or sit back and watch the birdlife or hunt for bugs. Grab your scrapbook and collect stickers and stamps. Stay for as little or as long as you like and start ticking off your adventures. Meet at Brancaster Beach (PE31 8AX) and look out for flags and staff.

Miraculous Mini Beasts at NWT Foxley Wood (Mon 22 Oct 2018, 10.30 to 12.00). Join the NWT team at Foxley, and forage among the foliage and search between the sedge for any minibeast which may be waiting. Learn how to catch a bug or beast for a closer inspection. Booking essential, call 01603 625540.

End of Season Bonfire and Fireworks at Blakeney Quay (Sat 20 Oct 17:00 to 22:00). Watch a marvellous firework display to mark the end of the season at Blakeney Quay. There will also be children's rides, stalls, a musical organ and lots of food and drink. Free parking at the Village Hall. Event opens at 5.00pm. Bonfire Lit at 6.45pm. Firework Display at 7.30pm. (Please note that in the event of bad weather, then the event will take place the next day, Sun 21 Oct).

Spectacular Fireworks Event at Castle Rising Castle (Sat 27 Oct from 5pm).
The gates open at 5pm and the display starts at 7.15pm. There will be food stalls and entertainment as well as the fantastic fireworks display in the castle grounds.

Sea Fever at The Maltings, Wells (20 Oct). Sea Fever is North Norfolk’s festival of poetry and prose, celebrating all forms of the written word inspired by this exceptional coast-line; and to bring to the coast writers with national reputations.

The Real Halloween at Bradmoor Woods, West Acre (Sat 27 Oct at 13:00 to 19:00 and Sun 28 Oct at 12:00 to 18:00). Real Halloween focusses on what is enchanting about the season, not anything scary. It’s a great family friendly event experiencing the authentic magic of nature in a beautiful and atmospheric setting. Be sure to stay for the lantern parade, fire show and Real Halloween story! Enjoy workshops including magic wands and witch and wizard training. Ideal for children aged 3-8 years.

‘Trick or Tweet’ at Pensthorpe Natural Park (Thurs 18 Oct to Sun 28 Oct). Pop along to Pensthorpe Natural Park for ‘Trick or Tweet’, where the family gets to enjoy spooky craft-making activities and a creepy-crawly trail weaving through the ancient woodlands and wetlands of the reserve.

Halloween Days at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure (18 Oct to 28 Oct). Dippy and his spooky friends have given the park a trick or treat make over with Dippy’s Spooky fun zone, Dippy’s Spooky Maze and Halloween crafts in the Secret Animal Garden. Complete the spooky trail and claim your magical medal. Explore Mayhem Monster Manor and meet some of the friendlier inhabitants. For older visitors, there is also PrimEVIL at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure (12 Oct to 3 Nov). Enjoy a variety of entertainment throughout the night, including a demonic horde of Street Performers, a licensed bar, BBQ and live band.

Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade (13 to 31 Oct) at Bewilderwood. Bewilderwood is hosting its annual Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade where visitors can explore the magical woodland, get crafty and enjoy a parade under the glow of lanterns.

Halloween Spooky I-Spy train at Wells & Walsingham Light Railway (18 to 28 October). Hop aboard the Spooky I-Spy train for a creepy journey where you find Halloween clues along the line while enjoying a ride on the world’s smallest public railway!

Norfolk Trails Walking & Cycling Festival (1 to 31 October). For adventures on foot and by pedal, the Norfolk Trails Walking and Cycling Festival takes place during the whole of October and this year it is hosted by Marriott’s Way. Included in the program are events designed to highlight the very best of the 26-mile route, such as nature and history walks, new circular rides and walks, suitable for all ages and abilities. Other events include birding walks at Titchwell, fungi forays at Felbrigg Hall and a railway adventure along the Bittern Line.
