What's on and things to do Christmas 2021 in north norfolk

North Norfolk is home to many magical Christmas events and festive cheer this December. There’s plenty on for all the family. See our event round up below.

A PENSTHORPE CHRISTMAS TALE

There are a number of magical events to get you and your family into the festive spirit. From a Christmas Market and Wreath Making workshops to visiting Santa in his grotto, there is something for everyone. Running 28 November to 23 December 2021.

CHRISTMAS AT HOLKHAM HALL

There are plenty of festive events taking place at Holkham this year. There will be late night shopping, wreath making and willow weaving workshops, children's crafts and Diva Opera. 

On 18 and 19 December, do a spot of shopping at the Christmas food, drink and gift market. You can even visit Holkham Hall by candle light, join in a carol service and explore the grounds on a tractor trailer tour. Father Christmas will be in residence on 18, 19, 22 and 23 December.

FABULOUS FESTIVE SHOWS

There are plenty of fabulous festive shows throughout the Christmas period across north Norfolk.

Cromer Pier (27 November to 30 December 2021). You know Christmas has begun when the Cromer Pier Christmas show opens! This Christmas variety show will warm your hearts and get you in the mood for the Christmas season with a whole heap of festive fun. It’s fast becoming one of the ‘must see’ family Christmas shows in Norfolk, with laugh-out-loud comedy, amazing dance routines and glitzy costumes. 

Hunstanton Princess Theatre  (4 December 2021 to 1 January 2022). Dust off your flying carpets and take a trip to The Princess Theatre, Hunstanton this Christmas for Aladdin! Expect dazzling scenery, colourful costumes, hilarious comedy and amazing special effects. 

Sheringham Little Theatre (21 - 31 December 2021), Get ready to climb a beanstalk to adventure, laughs, songs and family entertainment with Jack and the Beanstalk. Join lazy Jack as he gets used to life beyond lockdown, his trendy but embarrassing Mum (Dame TikTok), his love interest from the local council (Jill Weaver) and his pet Cow who has learned how to talk (Colin). Will they be able to get to the top of the Beanstalk and defeat the evil Giant?

CHRISTMAS AT THURSFORD

Enchanted Journey of Light: Your journey will progress into the Santa’s Magical Journey Building (sadly Santa is STILL ICE-olating so will not be attending the event). Travel past the penguins and polar bears to the giant-sized teddy bears and see how the elves have loaded Santa’s sleigh. Your journey continues as you venture outside to the Lantern Light Extravaganza; a beautiful, breath-taking festival of luminous sculptures, from a fantasy underwater world to the wilds of the North Pole. Watch out for the naughty mushroom gnomes! Running until 23 December 2021.

Thursford Christmas Spectacular: Christmas Spectacular is an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. It’s a fast moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year round favourites. With a cast of 130 this is the biggest Christmas show of it’s kind in Europe!

SANTA EXPERIENCE AT WROXHAM BARNS

Norfolk’s sell-out Christmas experience is back! Taking place every weekend in December as well as the run up to Christmas eve. Norfolk’s favourite Santa has agreed once again to take time out of his busy schedule at the North Pole to come to Junior Farm at Wroxham Barns with his Elves for his hugely popular ‘Santa Experience’ and this year there’s even more fun to be had with the new live animal nativity, new Elf Academy, toy shop and Snow Storm Barn.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS WALK AT FAIRHAVEN

Enjoy the magic of the gardens after dark, lit up by glowing Christmas lights. Follw the olights trail around the gardens and spot the hidden twinkles through the trees.
From the sensory garden to the crocodile walk, you'll get the sense of Christmas come early and get that seasonal tingle of excitement. Finish up with a warm cup of hot chocolate or a lovely mulled wine to sip under the lights in the picnic area. Maybe even grab a marshmallow to toast on our fire pit.

NORFOLK LIGHTS EXPRESS

The Norfolk Lights Express is an immersive, wintertime experience that is fun for the whole family! Arrive after dark at Sheringham Station and you’ll be greeted by the magical sight of a steam-hauled train illuminated by thousands of tiny lights. The Old Luggage Office buffet will be open to pick up a warming drink. As your train steams from Sheringham to Holt and back, you’ll pass a series of colourful lit-up dioramas and literally see the countryside adjoining the track in a whole new light as the onboard lights shine on to the scenery in a series of changing colours. Running 15 November 2021 to 3 January 2022.

At Wroxham, you can hop aboard the Bure Valley Railway Santa train, Norfolk’s longest narrow-gauge railway, all the way to Aylsham to see Santa in his grotto where each child will receive a present from Santa himself.

DIPPY'S CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT ROARR! DINOSAUR ADVENTURE

Head to Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure and experience Dippy’s Christmas Celebration – a magical festive event. Dippy has pulled out all the stops with a very special live performance and a brand new festive film ‘The Sleigh Ride’ showing at Dippy’s Theatre. Sing carols, bust some merry moves and let the children get Christmas crafty in the Secret Animal Garden! Watch out for the elves, as they help you navigate the festive forest, and wrap super-secret presents for parents in the Christmas Present House. Running 26 November to 24 December 2021.

LUMINATE LIGHT TRAIL AT SANDRINGHAM

Nestled deep within Her Majesty's private Estate, awaits a spectacular, illuminated trail, full of wonder and intrigue, to delight and enthral your senses. As darkness descends, go on an enchanting journey and weave a captivating light trail through the Country Park at Sandringham, the much loved rural retreat of Her Majesty. Immerse yourself in the mesmerising mile long trail, with stunning lighting elements and fabulous light play, all set to ambient music. Running nightly, from 12 November to 19 December 2021. Tickets must be pre-booked online in advance.

Enjoy Christmas with the Royal family at Sandringham! The Queen and her family spends the festive period on the Sandringham Estate. Sandringham itself isn't open while the Queen is in residence, but you can join the Royal family outside St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas Day, where they go traditionally for the 11 o'clock service (check ahead before attending).

WINTER WILDLIFE

Winter is a wonderful time to see Norfolk's wildlife. From the migrating geese at Norfolk Wildlife Trust and RSPB reserves on the north Norfolk coast, to the largest seal colony in England at Blakeney Point, it really is a wonderful winter safari.

CHRISTMAS MARKETS AND SHOPPING

North Norfolk is great for Christmas shopping. There are lots of Christmas markets for finding that perfect present as well as charming towns offering shopping away from the high street.

Creake Abbey Christmas Fair (27 November 2021, 10am to 3pm). Each year, Creake Abbey in North Creake runs a Christmas gift fair with around 40 gift and art stands and 10+ food and drink stands with locally produced wares.
It takes place in the stunning grounds of Creake Abbey and the outside stalls will be widely spaced and there are indoor stalls throughout the barns at Creake Abbey. 

North Norfolk Arts and Crafts Winter Fair, Letheringsett at Back to the Garden (27-28 November 2021, 10am-4pm). The stalls will be selling a range of wares from Norfolk artists and makers, including jewellery, embroidery and ceramics.
The Garden farm shop and restaurant will be serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and full meals.

Christmas Market at Pensthorpe Natural Park 28 November: The popular Christmas Market returns to Pensthorpe Natural Park for its 4th year. Enjoy crafts, delicious festive food and drink, and great local produce from across Norfolk. 

Visit the shops in pretty market towns or head to the Christmas markets and fairs (check ahead if they are running). With unique gifts, artisan crafts and local produce in abundance, it’s a great opportunity to pick up gifts you can’t find on the high street. You can also enjoy some local seasonal produce, while getting in the festive spirit.
