The nearby Ship Inn is home to Lil' Ship, a retired vessel where you can get tasty snacks to enjoy in the pub garden. Take a stroll through the picturesque streets of Mundesley, which are lined with pretty cottages. You can also feed the ducks on Mundesley millpond before heading off to beautiful Stow Mill, which lies just a mile or so south of the village.

MorningMorning

Mundesley is a wonderful seaside village with wide stretches of sandy beaches and shallow pools for children – and adults – of all ages to enjoy. We're talking serious sandcastle territory here, so don't forget those buckets and spades! The youngsters will also love making their own beach sculptures – and signing their names in the sand. Mundesley's traditional old-world charm is reflected in the parade of brightly-coloured beach huts along the seafront. In fact it's the perfect setting for a family seaside outing to remember. Treat yourselves to an ice-cream; bask in the sun; and enjoy a paddle in the sea! A short distance from the beach there are wonderful sea views from the war memorial, which is made from a German bomb casing. Website: www.mundesley.org

LunchLunch

The terrifying skull-and-crossbones flies from Lil' Ship, the retired boat which now lives in the garden of Mundesley's historic Ship Inn. Happily, the only real danger posed by this pirate ship is that everyone will be tempted by its range of tasty burgers, hot dogs, kebabs and 'Mr Shippy' ice cream. You can also eat inside the Ship Inn, which is more than 200 years old. The pub serves good, locally-sourced food, and offers a kids' menu. If you stroll through Mundesley after lunch you'll be enchanted by its pretty cottages, with their thatched roofs, stone walls and flint-work. There's also a good selection of shops, and a tea room. There are great views from the village's cliff-top path, and the whole family can enjoy feeding the ducks on the old Mundesley millpond. This is also highly recommended by the ducks. The picturesque Stow Mill lies just a mile or so south of Mundesley, and is one of the best corn tower mills in Norfolk. Stow Mill was built between 1825-27, and was a working mill for more than a century until 1930. Current owners Roger and Andrea Hough took over in 1999, and since then an extensive restoration has taken place. The mill is on four floors which can be reached via a series of stepped ladders. There are photographs and displays on each level. Gifts and souvenirs are available in the shop, and visitors can sit outside the mill to enjoy a drink or ice-cream. Admission to the mill is just 50p for children, making your visit great value for money. Details of MundesleyMundesley

Mundesley's popularity as a holiday destination dates back to the Victorian age, and its appeal endures precisely because it offers a more traditional holiday.

With a parade of brightly-painted beach huts along its front, Mundesley's wide stretches of sandy beach and shallow pools are an ideal playground for children, while sea fishing provides good sport whichever part of the year you choose to visit.

The village sits in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is within easy distance of North Walsham, Stalham and the Norfolk Broads. If you enjoy country walks, Mundesley has plenty of footpaths and circular routes. Nearby Southrepps Common is an important area for wildlife. Covering some 12 hectares it is a mixture of woodland, reed grass and wild flowers. A fine nine-hole golf course offers unrivalled views over the coast.
