About

The Bure Valley Path is a cycling and walking trail following a nine-mile route through the picturesque Bure Valley between historic Aylsham and Wroxham in the heart of the Broads. It follows the narrow-gauge Bure Valley Railway and halts are provided at Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall to put down or pick up passengers on request, including bikes (subject to space). Enjoy views of the stunning restored Buxton Mill, sip champagne at Hautbois Hall or take a boat journey around the Broads at Wroxham. The trail links with Marriott’s Way at Aylsham.

Parking: In Hoveton or nearby Wroxham.

Points of interest: Walkers can join any of the Bure Valley Railway's scheduled services. There are also intermediate stations at Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall for those walkers not able to walk the full nine miles between Aylsham and Wroxham.

So whether you’re hopping on and off the Bure Valley Railway or taking a longer trip, the Bure Valley Path is a great trail to discover. And with the Bittern Line train (Norwich to Sheringham) stopping at Hoveton and Wroxham it’s easy to leave the car behind.

Starting point: The terminus for the Bure Valley Railway at Aylsham. (NR11 6BW) Grid ref. TG 302 185

Follow the railway eastward and then south-east. Follow all the way to Wroxham station. You can detour at Coltishall along the way.

Exit the railway at Coltishall station and follow the road south-west into town. Turn left as the road approaches the junction by the petrol station. Continue along this road and you will see the Red Lion pub on the left past the church. The Kings Head pub is on the right and is the last building before on that side of the road out of town. A few yards before the Kings Head there is a footpath on the left.

Follow along to the road and at the end, turn right and then bear left. Continue along this road until just before it crosses the railway, at which point take the right turning. Then turn left at the end where there is a level crossing across the railway. The Bure Valley path can then be continued to Wroxham station.
