About

Thurne Walk is a 3.3 mile (5.3 kilometre) circular walk starting at Thurne Staithe in Thurne near Great Yarmouth. It is a rural countryside and riverside walk with views of Thurne following the Weavers Way and incorporating South Oby Dyke.

Walking Route:

1. Turn left on leaving the car park and proceed along the lane until you come to a phone box opposite the staithe.

2. Just past the phone box, turn left and follow the sign for Weavers' Way. Stay on this path as it leads through some farm buildings.

3. As you leave the farm buildings, you will pass two bungalows on your right. Pass these then turn right into the field after climbing over the stile. Follow the field edge towards the church.

4. On reaching the road, cross directly over and follow the field edge footpath in front of the church. Continue along as it turns left and right.

6. Turn right and follow the sign for Weavers' Way, passing through a farm.

7. At the cross track, turn right, continue ahead and pass through a metal gate and head towards South Oby Dyke. At the dyke, keep to the right, passing through a small gate. Then head towards the river.

8. At the river, turn right. The continue ahead until you come to a staithe opposite the wind pump. Follow the staithe around to the other side.

9. Once on the other side of the staithe, turn right onto a permissive footpath to Thurne Village. This footpath is not identified on the OS map so you will need to look out for a finger sign indicating the route. Follow this footpath until you come to a gate.

10. At the gate, turn left. Continue along the track, passing through the kissing gates along the way. The path comes to an end as it passes through a yard. Keep to the right until you come to a road.

11. At the road, turn left and continue ahead. This lane passes through the centre of the village and will lead you back to the start of the walk. The Lion Inn will be on your right side.
