Dogs on Beaches
During the summer, to help ensure North Norfolk's beaches are clean and safe for everyone - particularly young children - dogs are subject to restrictions on some stretches of the shore.
Areas where dogs must be kept on leads, or where they are banned entirely, are clearly signposted. Restrictions apply on parts of the following beaches from 1 May to 30 September:
Bacton Cromer Mundesley Overstrand Sea Palling Sheringham Walcott West Runton
In addition, certain restrictions apply all year-round, and we give the following advice:
- You must clean up after your dog if it fouls. Failure to do so is an offence under the Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
- Dogs can frighten and worry some people, particularly small children. Please keep yours under control.
- Please carry "poop scoops" or something similar to use to clean up after your dog. Disposal bins for these are provided in some areas.
- Don't leave your dog in a car without good ventilation and shade - hot cars can kill.
- Choose your dog's exercise area carefully.
Failure to comply with dog restrictions could incur a fine of up to £1000.
